Leather Care Guide

Genuine leather is built to last, and a little care goes a long way. Look after your jacket with these simple steps and it will last for decades, getting softer and better looking with every year of wear.

Everyday care

• Hang your jacket on a wide, padded hanger so it keeps its shoulder shape.
• After wearing, wipe it with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust.
• Empty the pockets before hanging, so they don't stretch.
• Give it a day to air out between wears if you wear it often.

Cleaning

• For light marks, wipe with a soft cloth slightly dampened with water, then let the jacket dry naturally.
• Use a cleaner made for leather. Never use household cleaners, alcohol or baby wipes.
• For oil, ink or deep stains, take it to a professional leather cleaner. Do not machine wash or iron leather.

Conditioning

• Condition smooth leather two to four times a year, or whenever it starts to look dry.
• Apply a small amount of leather conditioner with a soft cloth, work it in gently and wipe off any excess.
• Always test on a hidden area first, such as inside the hem.
• Do not use conditioner on suede, nubuck or metallic finishes.

Rain and water

• If your jacket gets wet, blot off the water with a towel and hang it to dry at room temperature.
• Never dry leather with a hair dryer, radiator or in direct sunlight, because heat can make it stiff and crack.
• Once it is dry, apply a little conditioner to smooth leather to restore its softness.

Suede and nubuck

• Brush gently with a suede brush to lift the nap and remove dust.
• Use a suede eraser for small marks.
• Protect it with a suede protector spray before first wear, and keep it away from rain where you can.

Shearling, fur trim and metallic leather

• Brush shearling and fur trims gently, and keep them dry.
• Wipe metallic and specialty finishes with a soft, dry cloth only.
• For deep cleaning, use a professional leather cleaner.

Storage

• Store your jacket in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight.
• Use a breathable cotton garment bag. Plastic covers trap moisture.
• Give it space in the closet so it isn't crushed and doesn't crease.
• Creases from folding relax on their own after a few days on a hanger.
