Can I Get a Leather Jacket Made From a Photo? How It Works

Can I Get a Leather Jacket Made From a Photo? How It Works

Black leather tailored biker jacket and women's bridal jacket with embroidered text

Maybe it's a jacket from an old family snapshot, a vintage piece you missed out on, or a sketch you've carried around for years. Getting a leather jacket made from a photo is entirely possible. It works well when you send the right references, and this guide explains exactly what to send and what happens next.

Quick answer: Yes. Send clear front, back and side photos, close-ups of the collar, pockets, cuffs, zips and lining, and your measurements. Choose your leather and color, then we review and quote; fully custom quotes start from $199. We draft the pattern, you approve the details, and it's made to order.

Can you get a leather jacket made from a photo?

Yes. A photo shows us the proportions and details that define a jacket: the collar shape, where the pockets sit, how the seams divide the panels, the length and the closure. From those references our pattern makers draft a new pattern, scaled to your measurements rather than to the person in the picture.

The result is a new jacket that captures the design you love, cut to fit you and made in genuine leather of your choice. The better your photos, the closer the result.

What photos should you send?

Think of it as documenting the jacket for someone who will never hold it. Send:

  • Full views: front, back and both sides, shot straight on, either laid flat or on a person.
  • Close-ups: the collar open and closed, pockets, cuffs, zips, snaps or buttons, shoulder details, any back pleats or yoke, and the lining.
  • A worn shot if you have one, so we can see how the jacket sits on the body and where it ends.
  • A sketch, even a rough one, marking anything you want changed.
  • Your measurements, or the flat measurements of a jacket that already fits you well. Our guide on how to measure for a leather jacket shows how.

For the clearest results, shoot in daylight against a plain background, skip filters, and lay a tape measure beside the jacket in a close-up or two so we can judge scale.

How the process works at White Buraq

  1. Send your photos and notes. Tell us what you love about the jacket and anything you'd change.
  2. Choose your leather and color. Browse our leather types for the feel and finish, and our leather color options for the shade.
  3. We review and quote. We'll ask about anything the photos don't make clear. Fully custom quotes start from $199, depending on the design, leather and details.
  4. We draft the pattern. Your photos and measurements become a pattern for your jacket.
  5. You approve the details. We confirm the hardware, pockets, lining and any personal touches with you before cutting.
  6. We make it to order in our workshop.

One thing to know up front: custom pieces can't be returned, because each one is cut for a single person. That's why the approval step matters, and why we'd rather ask one extra question than guess.

These pieces show the kind of detail a good photo can capture, from a tailored biker to embroidered text:

What a photo can't tell us, and how to fill the gaps

Even great photos leave a few things open. Here's what's usually missing and how to help:

  • Leather weight. A picture can't show whether a jacket is light and supple or heavy and stiff. Describe how it felt, or tell us how you'll wear it, and we'll suggest a leather to match.
  • Exact dimensions. Length, pocket size and collar height are hard to read from a photo. If the jacket is on a person, tell us their height and usual size so we can estimate.
  • Hardware size. Zip and snap sizes are easiest to judge with a coin or tape measure in the shot.
  • Hidden details. Inside pockets, lining material and how the back of the collar is finished rarely show up. If they matter, describe them.

Recreating a vintage jacket from an old photo

Old photos bring their own challenges, but they're often the most rewarding projects. A few things help:

  • Black-and-white pictures can't show color. Tell us what you remember, or pick a shade from our color options that feels right.
  • Small or faded prints still show the silhouette, collar and closure. Scan them at the highest resolution you can rather than photographing them with a phone, and send every picture you have of the same jacket.
  • Worn leather in a photo may look darker, lighter or more creased than it was when new. Decide whether you want the jacket as it once was or as it looks in the picture; a distressed finish can capture that broken-in character.

There's no need to mail us the original print. A good scan does the job, and your keepsake stays at home.

What we can't copy

We don't reproduce another company's logos, trademarks or copyrighted artwork, including back patches and printed designs. If the jacket in your photo carries one, we'll leave it off, or you can replace it with your own artwork or a vintage-inspired design of your own. Personal logos, initials and names are fine, and our guide to a custom leather jacket with your logo explains how we handle them.

Tips for a smoother custom order

  • Stick to one reference jacket per order. If you want to combine details from several, say clearly which detail comes from which photo.
  • Mark your must-haves. Circle the details you care about most, so we know where precision matters.
  • Decide on the lining early. It affects warmth and weight as much as the look.
  • Plan the timing. Allow for questions, approval and making, especially if the jacket is for a date or event.

Starting from scratch rather than from a photo? Our guide on how to design a custom leather jacket walks through each choice.

Already like one of our styles? Try made to measure

If one of our existing jackets is close to what's in your photo, made to measure can be simpler. Choose "Customise Size (made to measure)" on the product page, then email info@whiteburaq.com with your order number and measurements. Made-to-measure pieces take about 2 weeks, and express delivery takes 3 to 5 business days in the US and 5 to 8 elsewhere. Made-to-measure pieces can't be returned either. Details are on our made-to-measure page.

FAQ

How much does a leather jacket made from a photo cost?

Fully custom jackets are quoted from $199. Where yours lands depends on the design, the leather you choose and the details involved.

Can you copy a jacket exactly?

We follow your photos closely for shape, proportions and details, and cut the pattern to your measurements. We won't reproduce another company's logos, labels or artwork.

Do I need to send the original jacket?

No. Clear photos and good measurements are enough. If you own a jacket that fits you well, its flat measurements are a great reference.

Can I return a custom jacket?

No. Custom and made-to-order pieces can't be returned, which is why we confirm every detail with you before we start cutting.

A leather jacket made from a photo starts with good pictures and a clear idea of what you love about the original. When you're ready, send your references through our custom leather jackets page and we'll take it from there.
