Wholesale Western Leather Jackets: What Western Stores Should Stock

Men's antique cowhide western jacket with sheepskin collar

Fall is when western customers start asking for leather again, and a good outerwear rack can carry a western store, ranch and feed store or event booth through the cold months. Wholesale western leather jackets let you build that rack without designing a line from scratch: pick proven western shapes, choose the leather, color and trim, and sell them as stock or under your own label.

Quick answer: Start with three western shapes: a cowhide rancher jacket with a sheepskin or sherpa collar, a fringe jacket, and a suede or trucker style with western yokes. Keep colors to browns, tan and black plus one statement shade. At White Buraq, there is no minimum order, and sizes can be mixed as needed.

Which western leather jacket styles should a western store carry?

Western customers buy outerwear they can wear to work, to town and to an event, so the strongest assortment mixes one hard-working jacket with one or two statement pieces. These shapes fit most western floors:

  • Rancher jacket. A boxy, hip-length work jacket in smooth or antique cowhide, usually with a sheepskin or sherpa collar, a snap or button front and roomy pockets. This is the coat ranch and feed store customers wear every day through winter.
  • Fringe jacket. Fringe across the yoke, sleeves or hem gives instant western character. It sells to women's and event customers and looks strong on a display wall.
  • Suede jacket. Soft, napped suede in tan, brown or sand reads classic western and works as a lighter fall layer.
  • Western vest. A leather vest is an easy add-on sale and covers early fall and layering customers. Our leather vests collection shows the shapes we already make.
  • Trucker with western yokes. A waist-length trucker shape with pointed front and back yokes, snap closures and chest pockets bridges western and everyday wear.

If floor space is tight, start with a rancher and one fringe style. Those two cover the work customer and the statement customer, and you can add suede or vests once you see who walks in.

Which leathers suit western outerwear?

The leather shapes both the look and how a jacket wears in barns, trucks and arenas. Every option below is genuine leather; the right mix depends on whether your customers want a work coat or a show piece.

Leather Look and feel Good for
Smooth cowhide Firm, sturdy hand that softens with wear; clean, even surface Rancher jackets, truckers, everyday work wear
Antique or distressed cowhide Rubbed, two-tone finish that looks broken in from the first wear Rancher and moto styles with a vintage western look
Buffalo Thick hide with a deeper, more pronounced grain Rugged jackets for customers who like texture
Suede Soft, napped and pliable; marks more easily with water Fringe jackets, fall layers, dressier western looks

Smooth and antique cowhide carry most rancher lines because they hold their shape and take hard use. Suede is the softer, dressier choice, so pair it with clear care advice at the register. Here are three styles a western store can stock as they are or put under its own label, each one a starting point for leather, color and trim changes:

Which decoration options sell on wholesale western leather jackets?

Our workshop handles fringe, studs, embossing, debossing, hand painting, perforation, laser engraving and quilting, so you can keep one base pattern and change its character.

  • Fringe. Choose where it falls (yoke, sleeves, back or hem) and how long it runs. Long fringe moves and reads bold; shorter fringe is easier for everyday wear.
  • Studs. A line of studs along a yoke or collar adds a show look without changing the pattern.
  • Embossing. Press your store brand into a cuff or chest panel, or add a pattern across the back yoke.
  • Hand painting. Painted motifs on a white or tan jacket make a one-of-a-kind statement for event season.

Put the heavy decoration on one or two statement styles and keep the rancher and trucker clean for the work customer.

What colors sell in western leather outerwear?

Browns lead in western outerwear. Saddle, chocolate, tan and rust tones look at home with boots, denim and hats. Black works for evening and event wear, and a white or cream fringe jacket gives the rack a statement piece that pulls shoppers in.

We offer 48 leather colors, each with a WB-C code, so a reorder can be matched to the first run. Browse the leather color chart and list the codes in your quote request. A practical spread is two browns, one black and one statement shade across your styles.

When should a western store order for fall, winter and event season?

Leather outerwear sells from the first cool spell of fall through the holiday gift season, and many western stores see another lift around stock shows, rodeos and winter events. Work back from the date you want jackets on the floor:

  1. Pick styles and colors. Send photos, sketches, a tech pack or your own sample garment. Our pattern master drafts a cardboard pattern in about 2–3 hours and grades it to your size chart.
  2. Approve a sample. A sample is made before every new style, and any sample fee is shown in the quote.
  3. Confirm terms in writing. Quantity, sample fee, price, lead time, payment, freight and duties are agreed before work starts, and production begins only after your written approval.
  4. Plan around your event calendar. Hold some pieces back for event booths and gift season.

Lead time depends on the design, leather, quantity and decoration, and we confirm it in writing with your quote. Ask early if you want custom fringe or hand painting.

How should a western store size and test its first leather order?

There is no minimum order for leather, and sizes can be mixed as needed, so you can try a rancher and a fringe style without deep stock in either. Watch which colors and sizes go first, then reorder by WB-C code.

Western customers often need larger or longer sizes, especially in work jackets. We make sizes up to 8XL in regular and tall, with no development charge for larger sizes. Our big and tall leather jacket wholesale program has more on adding those fits to your rack.

A small batch for an event committee can go through wholesale, since there is no minimum. For a single special order, our fully custom leather jackets route, quoted from $199 to $499, is also an option.

Can a western store sell leather jackets under its own label?

Yes. Many western stores want outerwear that carries their own brand, the same way they stock branded caps and shirts. Private label options include woven neck labels, embossed logos, logo embroidery, custom linings, hardware finishes, hang tags, and garment bags and boxes. Your logo and artwork need to be owned by you or authorized for your use.

Wholesale for store stock is 50% of retail. US addresses ship duties paid, and for other destinations freight, duties and taxes are agreed up front in the quote. White Buraq is based in Duluth, Georgia, with its own family workshop crafting leather since 1998.

What should your staff know about caring for western leather?

Give staff three care points to share at the register:

  • Smooth and antique cowhide. Wipe off dust and mud with a soft dry cloth, and condition now and then so the leather stays supple.
  • Suede. Brush it with a suede brush, keep it out of heavy rain and never machine wash it.
  • Fringe and storage. Hang jackets on wide, shaped hangers, let fringe hang free and skip plastic covers so the leather can breathe.

Our leather care page has fuller notes staff can pass on, and customers who want to learn the styles can read our western leather jacket guide.
